After your proof is approved, the layout file is output to the imagesetter which produces film negatives. The negatives are then processed and stripped in to prepare them for the required press. Typically, four printing plates are "burned" for each side of the piece — one for each of the four colors in process printing.
From the prepress department, your job is sent to Sault Printing’s pressroom. The pressroom foreman distributes the presswork among ten different printing presses depending on size, quantity, work flow, and stock.

All presswork at Sault Printing is printed individually instead of lot-run. This allows our pressmen to make custom adjustments for each piece. |

Although modern and up-to-date in every respect, our pressroom relies primarily on the expertise, quality workmanship, and experience of its pressmen. To meet the demands and challenges of a typical day’s production, the Sault Printing pressroom crew can draw from over 80 combined years of printing experience.
Pressroom Foreman Mick Maleport started working with his father in 1975. With over 25 years of experience, Mick maintains the family tradition of production quality upon which Sault Printing’s reputation has been built.

In January of 2000, a major milestone was reached at Sault Printing with the purchase of a 4 color printing press. This investment was made in response to the region’s growing demand for high quality, fast, and inexpensive color printing.
The new 4 color press enables our pressmen to complete a full-color print job in less time—laying all four process color inks down at once. This increase in efficiency translates to substantial savings in time and money for our customers and thus a significant competitive edge for Sault Printing.
